VLC for Mac Going the Way of the Dinosaur?

VLC, the fantabulous open source media player, has run out of Mac devs. It’s been having problems crowdstaffing since May and the last developer left in December.
As a consequence, Mac support may be discontinued and the situation is described as “critical.”
