We received a note this morning from Matthew Lesh, developer of iTweetReply (App Store link), who just received a rejection letter from Apple.

“Thank you for submitting your application to the App Store. Unfortunately, your application, iTweetReply – Push Twitter Replies and Direct Messages, cannot be added to the App Store because its usage of the standard SMS UI elements may be confusing or misleading to iPhone users. Please redesign your application to look significantly different from the standard iPhone SMS built-in app.”

The rejection letter is for iTweetReply 1.1, yet from a UI perspective, nothing has changed from 1.0. As the developer points out, the UI in TweetReply is similar to Twitterfon and others. All of which are currently approved for sale in the App Store. While the developer theorizes that perhaps the negative press generated by his previous blog post could be the reason, this is likely more a case of an inconsistent approval process.

The developer has promised an improved version of TweetReply 1.1 is forthcoming and he plans on bring many of the features he had planned on for future updates.
