Siri Brings A PA To Your iPhone

Siri is a new iPhone app that uses an advanced voice recognition system to respond to your requests, and help you out in day to day life.

Siri Assistant is based on technology developed by the startup Siri, a company incubated by the Stanford Research Institute that enjoyed at least partial DARPA funding.
To use Siri, you just ask it with help over a number of different service tasks. It can tell you what’s going on in a neighborhood, call you a cab, find a specific restaurant, or book you tickets to a movie showing. It uses GPS, speech recognition, and a whole bunch of cool software and services to make the whole thing fit together. The app is free to download, as the company makes its money by receiving a small fee for any financial transactions over its service.
The official write-up for the app mentions that it is “built for 3GS phones”, so people using older phones may have trouble with the app.
