OLED Tablet Unlikely Says Ars

Ars Technica have put up an analysis about the chances of seeing an AMOLED (active matrix organic light emitting diode) on the iSlate/Tablet, and to put it bluntly they don’t think its likely.

Why? Because it doesn’t seem that anyone has the capacity to make a 10.1-inch OLED that the rumors source as the likely size for the tablet. Right now, the best candidate for making OLEDs of this size is Samsung, who are already having trouble meeting the demands of their current OLED demands. Ars talked to  Barry Young, Managing Director of the OLED Association, who said “Given that Samsung cannot meet its current order backlog, they are unlikely to build that many 10.1-inch displays”. LG has worked with Apple recently on displays, but they have even less capability than Samsung to make the screens.

This is one of the most cogent and timely analyses of the issue so far, as Ars Technica have actually talked to knowledgeable sources on the issue, and aren’t just relying on “unnamed sources”. Given the numbers they’ve stated in this article, we’re leaning towards believing that the tablet won’t come with an OLED. Maybe iSlate 2.0.
