Nuance Announce New Dragon Medical Mobile Technologies

On the back of the incredibly successful Dragon Dictation and Dragon Search, Nuance have announced a number of medical applications for smartphones.

Dragon Medical Mobile Dictate is an app that will allow the Doctor to dictate their patient notes, which are then sent through Dragon’s algorithm and transformed into text.

Dragon Medical Mobile Search is a medical version of the currently existing Dragon Search, which uses speech-to-text to search through a number of medical websites including MedScape, MedLine, Epocrates and Google.

Dragon Medical Mobile Recorder captures speech, which is then processed and sent through “Nuance’s background speech recognition technology and onto transcription where a high quality draft document is created and then is sent back to the clinician for review and sign-off”.

Nuance believes that by the end of 2011 81% of physicians will have smartphones, and any apps that make their lives easier seems to make a large degree of sense. Couple this with the iPad, and you may see that device become a prominent part of many health care facilities.
