No iPad+iPhone Tethering Says AT&T

Sorry folks, but it looks like there will be no way to tether between the iPhone and iPad, even if you pay the extra $20 per month for the service.

While talking to TechFlash, an AT&T spokesperson said “that it won’t be possible to tether the iPhone to the iPad to share Internet access with the Apple slate, citing the fact that the iPad doesn’t have any USB ports to enable a wired connection between the devices.”

So, no wireless tethering, then?

It also appears that even though the iPad and iPhone can Bluetooth tether, they cannot do it together.

Over at Gizmodo, an AT&T rep said: “You’ll need to speak with Apple. There is no AT&T policy around tethering and the iPad.”

Regardless of who’s at fault, this is still a major letdown — forcing users to maintain two separate data plans, when one would work perfectly well.
