New Toshiba NAND Modules May Mean 64GB iPhone, 128GB iTouch

Toshiba have released a new NAND module, an upgrade of the flash memory currently used on both the iPhone and iPod touch. The iPhone takes either a 16GB or 32GB card, and the iTouch can take two, giving it a 64GB configuration. If Apple continues to use these chips (which they would have no reason not to), then the next hardware generation might have 64GB of storage on the iPhone and 128GB on the iPod Touch. Now, if only Apple would allow micro-SD cards, so we could expand the devices ourselves.
There’s also been some of talk about how a 128GB iPod Touch might replace the current 160GB iPod Classic. This might happen, assuming Moore’s Law doesn’t kick in, and the Classic gets bumped to 320GB or something ridiculous. As it’s the only iPod sporting the classic design, then maybe it’s time to retire it.
