Continuing the sales data gathered by Deagol, iPad pre-orders are thought to be nearing the half-million mark. According to Fortune, pre-orders have stayed pretty steady since the first couple of days, and the online contingent is thought to be nearing the 240,000 mark at the end of the first two weeks:

  • 120,000 units on first day
  • 70,000 units (6 days at 12,000 units/day) over the first week, excluding Day 1
  • 50,000 units (7 days at 7,000 units/day) over second week

Couple that with an estimated equal volume of in-store pre-orders, and you get near 500,000 devices that will be in people’s hands on day one. At an average of $640 per iPad, with a half-million units pre-ordered, that’s $320 million in revenue that Apple already has guaranteed. I wouldn’t be surprised if by next Friday’s launch, it got all the way up to 750,000 presales.
