iPad Hulu To Be Subscription Only?

According to AllThingsDigital, we can expect an iPad Hulu app at some point in the future, but you’re going to have to pay a subscription for it. Their sources suggest that the charges will help bolster the money-losing website or else compensate the TV channels for the eyeballs they’re losing. Apparently there’s also the issue of whether the iPad is defined as a mobile device, which entails gaining additional broadcasting rights from the owners of the shows.

As much as I hate to harp on about it, this really does smack of old media companies not comprehending the internet. To put it bluntly, people put up with advertisements on Hulu because it’s free and they’re brief. As soon as you attempt to add a pay wall to that equation, desktop or mobile, users are going to flock to other sources. Forcing people to pay for Hulu is just going to make them realize just how easy it is to torrent the files instead.

One thing that will remain free is our competition to win an iPad! See details here.
