HarperCollins Also Battles Over Amazon Pricing, Wired’s Tablet Concept Isn’t iPad-Compatible

Rupert Murdoch, who owns HarperCollins, has come out swinging after Macmillan’s win over Amazon. The multibillionaire owner of NewsCorp wants to more than Amazon’s $9.99 price cap. Of the price point, Murdoch said “we want some room to maneuver,” as he believes the maximum amount devalues the worth of the books. Is this the beginnings of a mass revolt against Amazon?

In other publishing news, Wired’s excellent tablet prototype of their magazine won’t work on the iPad. Why? Because it was designed using Adobe Air, which isn’t supported by the tablet. Of course, Adobe is working on a method of porting flash apps directly to iPhone apps, which would probably allow Wired to transition their prototype to the device.
