Exactly as predicted last week, Google has announced a new streaming music service, tied to their search engine. Look up artists, lyrics or song titles and it will give you extra options to play streaming versions of music, as well as purchase it, if it’s available. The songs are run through partners Lala and iLike, the latter of which is controlled by MySpace. Lala songs can either be bought in online flash format for ten cents a song, or else 89-cent MP3s. Songs found via iLike will play in a MySpace branded widget, as it’s still the social network of choice for most bands. The new Google features should roll out over the next few days. Seeing as Lala is now making an iPhone app, hopefully you’ll be able to easily search for a song via Google, buy it, and listen to it on your phone.
