In this edition of Apps of the Week, we hand our iPhones over to babies to keep them occupied, keep track of the March Madness bracket, and take a little time to brush up on our history with a fun quiz.

Chick-fil-A

You demanded it, and now it’s…Well, we don’t quite know that anyone was actually demanding an app from Chick-Fil-A, but it’s definitely here now. The app itself is simple, with a restaurant locator, maps finder, and option to sign up for “text insiders” that get you deals for some good eats. This one’s all about the product, and we’re not ashamed to admit we love us some Chick Fil-A.

McGraw-Hill U.S. History Quiz Set 3

Price: $1.99

McGraw-Hill U.S. History Quiz Set 3

Tired of getting outsmarted on history questions while watching “Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?” on a daily basis? This is a fun little quiz from the folks who write the textbooks from way back when that will get your brain moving in ways you didn’t know it could still move. The quiz has 80 multiple-choice questions that you work your way through, and you even have the option of stopping and saving your work. When you’ve finished, you can also start over and scramble the questions to give yourself a do-over. Learn something new (or re-learn, we guess) and impress all of your buds at the next cocktail hour with some useful history buff knowledge.

Awwwsum

Price: FREE

Awwwsum

This app comes from a site that is definitely still in its infancy, but it has some serious potential in the arena of blogs about, well, awesome stuff. Awwwsum.com is simply a collection of user-submitted photos of things considered “awwwsum,” and the iPhone app could make for a nice break from the usual suspects of mindless entertainment apps that you frequent on the commute home or in your spare time. Upload your own photos directly from your phone, or just browse the submissions in “Today’s Awwwsum.” The more users that get in on this one, the more fun it will be. So hop to it!

Motion Traxx Radio

Price: $2.99

Motion Traxx Radio: Workout Music for Running and Exercise

Previously a podcast favorited by runners and workout fiends alike, Motion Traxx Radio hits the iPhone with an app that lets you stream podcast episodes of music that claims to improve your workout. Get your energy boosted, pace your movements, and follow routines all at once while powering through that run you’ve been putting off. Nothing like a great motivational app to get your blood pumping (literally!).

Baby Sound Box

Price: $0.99

Baby Sound Box

We frequently see little tykes grabbing onto their parents’ iPhones and getting quite the kick out of the sounds and pretty pictures that come out of the device. We, in turn, get quite the kick out of these tech-friendly babies (and also feel a little nervous for that iPhone that is so dangerously close to destruction from this). The Baby Sound Box app responds to movement and sounds by displaying fun graphics and playing baby-friendly sounds to entertain your little one for as long as necessary to give you a break for a minute. Not that we’re advocating iPhones as replacement parents, but, hey, sometimes Mom just needs to check her e-mail without interruption from Baby.

ESPN Tournament Challenge

ESPN Tournament Challenge

March Madness is officially in full swing, and with all of the money you probably have riding on whether or not your school makes it to the end, you’d better keep up with the sometimes complicated bracketed system whenever possible. Try this ESPN app that allows you to check a live-updated bracket, as well as live coverage of games currently airing from ESPN Gamecast. Also track your personal coverage with friends and keep the excitement alive while on the go.

iPhont

Price: FREE

iPhont

Though this app is more suited to app developers, it could also serve as a way for font lovers to get their fix while out and about. iPhont lets users browse and view the fonts available on the iPhone for app development to get an idea of what a font would look like in the final result of an app. Also, many props to the developers of this app for the name. It’s not rocket science, but it’s pretty darn clever.

PocketAudio (Microphone)

Price: $1.99

PocketAudio (Microphone)

At just under two bucks, this audio recording app for your iPhone is quite the steal. Once you download the program from PocketAudio for your computer (both Mac and PC versions are available), you can connect your iPhone to your computer, use your iPhone as an audio recorder, and capture the audio on your computer. This allows users to sub their iPhone as a microphone for programs like Skype, AIM, or Yahoo! instead of going the route of picking up a goofy headset or webcam. Many uses for this app, so, like we said, it’s definitely a steal.
