Apple Shakes Up The App Store

removedfromsale

Lets start the day with some bad news, shall we? Apple appear to be pulling all sexual content off the app store, sending the developers form letters like this one:

The App Store continues to evolve, and as such, we are constantly refining our guidelines. Your application, Wobble iBoobs (Premium Uncensored), contains content that we had originally believed to be suitable for distribution. However, we have recently received numerous complaints from our customers about this type of content, and have changed our guidelines appropriately.

We have decided to remove any overtly sexual content from the App Store, which includes your application.

Thank you for your understanding in this matter. If you believe you can make the necessary changes so that Wobble iBoobs (Premium Uncensored) complies with our recent changes, we encourage you to do so and resubmit for review.

Sincerely,

iPhone App Review

Apple have long had a no-nudity policy in the app store (even though their rating system allows for it), but have let cheesecake and innuendo filled apps through. Now it seems like they are pulling all the T&A content. So what’s Apple going to do to placate the enraged masses, who want their shake boobies apps? They’ve decided to allow lottery apps instead. That’s right, they’re phasing in apps that you purchase to enter a cash prize draw, whether via performing a task or just getting the app.

I can’t say I’m a huge fan of the titillating apps, but I do think it’s utterly hypocritical for the app store to ban them all, seeing as Safari will let you browse hardcore porn to your hearts content. And adding cash giveaway apps? Frankly, I’d prefer the app store to be flooded with cleavage rather than grifters.

However, in good news: the app store is now available in 13 more countries! You can now pick up applications in Armenia, Botswana, Bulgaria, Jordan, Kenya, Macedonia, Madagascar, Mali, Mauritius, Niger, Senegal, Tunisia, an Uganda. Woohoo Eastern Europe, Middle East and Africa!

Apple appear to be continuing their move to basing the app store on the internet, you can now browse the entire store from your browser. To actually purchase the app, you must go into iTunes, but you can look through categories and find what you need online first.
