App Store Folies: Ninjawords Dictionary Censored
Ninjawords (App Store link), developed by Matchbook Software, is an iPhone version of their online dictionary that utilizes Wikitionary as their source. The company has been through the App Store approval ringer, finally gaining entry after almost 3 months of censoring words at Apple’s request.

On multiple occasions, the developers removed words deemed objectionable by App Store reviewers, but that apparently was not sufficient. After three attempts the developers, worn out by the process, the developers submitted their app with a 17+ rating.
Daring Fireball recounts the entire fiasco. He sums up the story quite well with this quote, “Apple requires you to be 17 years or older to purchase a censored dictionary that omits half the words Steve Jobs uses every day.“
