Mexican Carrier Says iPhone 4 Hardware Fix For End Of September
CanalMX is reporting that an executive for Mexican iPhone carrier Telcel claims a hardware fix for the beleaguered iPhone 4 and its antennae is on the way, and will be out by the end of September.
Mexico only just started selling the iPhone 4. Marco Quatorze, Telcel’s Director of Value Added Services, said that the standard iPhone 4 will be on sale until the case program runs out at the end of September, at which point a new hardware revision, without the antennae attenuation problem, will start being sold instead.
We’ve not heard this rumor from any other locations or sources yet, so I’m having trouble with this being legit. If this were going to happen just a month from now, I’m sure we would have gotten wind of it. I’m not buying it.

Murdoch Could Play Kingmaker Over 99-Cent iTunes TV Rentals
According to the LA Times, Fox kingpin Rupert Murdoch could make or break 99-cent rentals show rentals for iTunes. Disney’s already on board, because Jobs is part of their family. NBC, CBS and Time Warner are opposed, obstinately refusing to get their content into more people’s hands. Murdoch’s company News Corp. is apparently divided, but they may have the power to make this feature happen. Apparently some of their execs are worried that the low cost rentals will cut into DVD sales and TV viewing.
However, Murdoch might be willing to come on board for a six-month trial in order to get on Apple’s good side, a move that he thinks might help save the floundering newspaper industry by getting better on board with the iPad. Murdoch has previously stated his hopes for the iPad as a device to bring in readers who otherwise wouldn’t subscribe to a paper.

iTunes Song Samples May Now Reach 60 Seconds
CNet is reporting that song samples on iTunes may soon double in length, hitting sixty seconds. Under the current scheme, if you want to listen to a song before you buy it, the preview will give you 30 seconds of music. According to multiple sources who are chummy with CNet, Apple is planning to extend the sample time substantially, which could be used to differentiate iTunes from other digital resellers, such as Amazon.com.
CNet also says not to expect cloud based iTunes, ans Apple hasn’t gathered all the required licenses for streaming music. You would think those would have come part and parcel of their purchase of Lala.
iTunes Survey Hints At Streaming Video
Apple’s big event is tomorrow, and we’re all kinds of amped up, and rumors are flying thick and heavy. This survey was sent out to a number of iTunes users, asking what features they love for watching on the iPad. The highlighted feature? Watch instantly? That’s not available on iTunes. Does that mean it will be soon? Interesting question, it certainly could happen. Cloud-based streaming iTunes has been on everyone’s minds for a long time, and we’re all waiting for Apple to do something mindblowing with iTunes.com
TechCrunch has pointed out that the iTunes Store didn’t do its usual Monday night refresh, perhaps in anticipation for some significant changes on September 1st. We’ll have to wait and see.
AutoCAD Returns To Apple After 18 Years, Comes To Mac, iOS
AutoCAD, the high-end engineering software that is near industry standard, has been absent from Apple products for almost two decades. It’s now poised for a return to both iOS and MacOS.
The OS X version of the app will be a complete native build, created from scratch:
AutoCAD for Mac takes full advantage of Mac OS X, including graphical browsing of design files with Cover Flow and use of multitouch gestures on Mac notebooks, the Magic Mouse, and the Magic Trackpad for intuitive pan and zoom features, a spokesman said. User-experience design patterns, such as the visual approach to drawing and layout management, have also been incorporated into AutoCAD for Mac.
This isn’t something you buy on a whim. It’ll go for $3,995 without support, $4,445 with. The toned down iPad/iPhone version will be free:
…dubbed AutoCAD WS, for the iPad, iPhone, and iPod Touch that lets users review, edit, and share AutoCAD files on those popular mobile devices.
