8GB 3GS? I’m not convinced.

There’s been a rumor floating around the internet for a couple of days now, that a German guy managed to get hold of  a refurbished 8GB 3G, which came in a box that mentioned an 8GB 3GS. The post was first dug up by Electronista, but right now the details don’t quite add up. The model name and part numbers both come from the 3G. The serial number is blocked, so no extra digging can be done on that. There’s a shadow CE visible on the label, which could either be a watermark thing (showing legitimacy) or else a shadow from the actual sticker beneath a shopped version stuck on top. Right now, there’s just not enough info. Just two blurry photographs, and a whole bunch of supposition. Until there’s a bit more evidence, I’m reserving judgement.

China Blocks Dalai Lama Apps From Their App Store

Wow, China censoring views it doesn’t agree with? Who woulda thunk? The Chinese Government has apparently pressured Apple into nixing apps that they find politically offensive.

At least five Dalai Lama related apps have been pulled from the store, including apps with quotes from the spiritual leader, one that tells his speaking engagements, and one that gives details about him and other Nobel Prize winners. They’ve also pulled an app related to Rebiya Kadeer, an exiled Uighur leader.

Apple spokeswoman Trudy Muller said ”We continue to comply with local laws. Not all apps are available in every country.”

Analyst Eightball: iPhones and Android to be Hit Hard by Hackers in 2010

This game never gets old! Today we have Roel Schouwenberg—of Kaspersky Lab Americas— talking to USA Today. Kaspersky is a pretty big name in viruses and malware, so they keep an eye on the dark-hat types. Roel says that 2010 will be the year cybercriminals come after the iPhone and Android. 2009 saw the first proof of concept attacks, and next year they’ll come into their own.

Schouwenberg certainly has a good pedigree, he’s a senior malware researcher at Kaspersky, so he knows what’s going on with the cybercriminal types. At the same time, a scared population buys their products, so it might be in their best interests to try and drum up some worry. We’ll see what happens, especially as, so far, the malware has only hit jailbroken models.

Charge your gadget on the bike

For those who frequently use their bicycles as the main mean of transport this will be really good news.  Dahon has recently announced the BioLogic FreeCharge that is attached to your bicycle and uses the energy generated by the bike’s dynamo to charge an internal high-capacity battery while you’re riding and pedaling.  It can be used to charge any USB powered devices such as iPhone, iPods, BlackBerries, mobile phone and other portable gadgets.  You just have to connect your device to the USB hub by a cable. For such devices as iPhone it takes about three hours to charge.

So when you plan long bike rides this gadget is really what you need in order not to stay off line.

Dahon is planning to release BioLogic FreeCharge in March 2010 at the price of around 100 USD.
