Stolen Belgian iPhones Starting To Appear on Russian Black Market
Batches of stolen iPhones snagged during the “Great iPhone Heist” in Belgium earlier this month are showing up on the Russian black market.
Two weeks ago, thieves made off with 3,000-4,000 iPhone 3GS from a Belgian warehouse belonging to wireless carrier Mobistar. The haul was valued at $3 million. Now the stolen iPhones are being offered [...]
Apple Field Testing New iPhone?
iPhone devs Pandav has spotted a new model of iPhone using their app, according to a report on MacRumors. The company makes the application iBart, an application to help navigating San Francisco’s public transit system. In their usage records from the app, they spotted a model of iPhone not available to the public, called “iPhone3,1″. iPhone2,1 was the 3GS, and was likewise spotted in traffic analytics before it was officially announced. The San Francisco app makes sense, as that’s near where Apple is located, and that’s also where iPhone2,1 was first spotted.
The 3GS data first came to light eight months before it’s launch, and if Apple stays true to form, that would be about right for a mid-2010 new model, right when AT&T’s exclusivity contract end.
South Korean iPhones Selling Like Gangbusters
In contrast to the recent launch in China, South Korea’s iPhone launch is being reported as a roaring success. Apparently 53,000 of the devices were pre-ordered by users, to buy the device from service provider KT Corp. It took two years to bring the iPhone to Korea, in part due to the nation’s draconian restrictions designed to foster local technology. It was only recently that the decision was made to allow in the handset, and now that it has arrived, it appears to be doing extremely well.

Tales Of The App Store: Apple Rejected Me
From the makers of such internet timewasters as FML, comes ARM: Apple Rejected Me. Anonymous, and dubiously authentic, stories of Apple’s rejection policy. Some of them are obviously fake, others more than a little plausible, and mostly they’re funny enough to provide a wry chuckle on a sleepy Saturday afternoon. Of course, since it’s open to the public, it’ll doubtless be soon flooded by trolls, so get it while it’s still funny.

New City-Focused iPhone GPS Nav Apps On Sale For Black Friday

The crowded iPhone GPS nav market is already starting to resemble a Southern California freeway on a Friday afternoon. But two just-launched GPS apps by Portuguese-based NDrive are different: they cover a much smaller area — they also carry a much lighter price tag.
The two apps, NDrive Los Angeles and NDrive New York City, cost [...]

Apps of the Week
This week’s best iPhone apps are quite the eclectic bunch: faking a phone call from Santa for the kids, finding a burger near you, and passing the time on your iPhone while on the john.

My Life is Average Pro
Price: $0.99
The addictive, somewhat cheerier version of FML.com has had a free iPhone app for a bit now, but the Pro version is finally out. Like most apps with Lite and Pro versions, this one is basically the Lite version without the ads. But soon you’ll also be able to search posts by best of today, week, month, etc.

The Profiler
Price: $2.99
Test your detective skills by examining and analyzing crime scene clues. Can you decode messages from a serial killer? Spot where the killer is hiding? A great app for those of us who are no longer satisfied sitting by as we watch those Law & Order folk dance around a crime scene looking for clues.

VicksClockRadio
Price: FREE
Yes, you read that correctly. Vicks, a cold medicine provider, has an alarm clock app. Choose from an interesting selection of songs from Epic Records artists to make your wake-up alarm in the morning. We don’t really get how Vicks could be involved with Epic Records in any way, but the app is free and decent, so we’ll take it.

Top Rated Apps
Price: $1.99
This one kind of reminds us of the Chorus app we reviewed earlier, but without all of those neat social networking features. The App Store is quite the mess when it comes to searching for quality apps, so this one aims to help you out by listing only the top rated ones. With all of these apps coming out lately with the sole purpose of making the App Store easier to navigate, perhaps Apple will catch on soon and revamp this beast?

Parents Calling Santa
Price: $0.99
We don’t usually encourage tricking little kids with your iPhone (it should be used for good, not evil, folks), but this one’s different: Santa’s involved. Give Santa a call through the app, and he’ll call you back, either with a message praising your kid’s good behavior or warning him of what will come should he or she not knock off those shenanigans. Hey, we’ll support whatever you have to do to get your kids to behave in public.

ELLE Shopping Guide
Price: FREE
This nifty little app has a few tools to help you with your shopping needs, whether you’re traveling or just looking for a good deal in your own city (only available in Los Angeles, New York City, and San Francisco now, but more to come). Get insider tips on the best places to go, how to get there, and what’s nearby. It’s basically like having a little ELLE fashion editor trapped in your iPhone and tucked away in your pocket. How convenient!

BurgerTime
Price: $0.99
Finally, a useful navigation app. This an essential for every burger lover out there always craving a certain fast food joint. BurgerTime features restaurants like Burger King, McDonald’s, Sonic, Wendy’s, Carl’s Jr., In-And-Out, and a few others. The app will find your location and let you know what’s nearby. It’s too bad only three of these places are in our area, otherwise we’d probably live by this app. Instead, we’re dying of hunger by craving the places that aren’t nearby.

Christmasfy Me
Price: FREE
It’s just a matter of time before Christmas cards become extinct (really, who sends these anymore?). So go the virtual route and make your own Christmas greeting cards with this app by editing some seasons greetings and goofy costumes onto a photo from your iPhone. It’s nothing spectacular, but it’s fun, it’s free, and, darn it, it’s Christmastime!

Dr Seuss Camera – Christmas Edition
Price: $2.99
If you read the pick above about getting Christmasfied and rolled your eyes, this one goes out to you. Get a customized Christmas greeting card edited from one of your photos to look like a greeting card from How the Grinch Stole Christmas. It may seem like a hefty price, but the photos do come out looking pretty impressive. And who doesn’t love the Grinch?

iPoo – bored while you poo?
Price: $0.99
We know you all do it from time to time, so why not share in the experience of playing on your iPhone while you’re on the john? There are some particularly dumb aspects to this app, including the feature that lets you “graffiti” on photos of your friends and post them on Facebook or Twitter. But we have a fair sense of humor and think the real-time stats on who’s going to the bathroom at that moment, the “poo stream” of posts from iPoo’ers from around the world, and the virtual stall are just too ridiculous to not be funny. Trust us, it really is worth the buck just to check this one out.
